The Alaska Pipeline was constructed during the 1970's to carry crude oil from Alaska's northern coast at Prudhoe Bay of the Arctic Ocean to Alaska's southern coast at Valdez. Much of the pipeline's 800 mile length is located above the Arctic Circle and traverses the Brooks Mountain Range. The 414 mile Dalton Highway was constructed to provide access to the pipeline and runs alongside much of it. This black and white photograph shows the Alaska Pipeline near the images's center and the Dalton Highway entering from the lower right image corner as they travel through the Brooks Range.
