Yellowstone National Park was established in 1872 as the world's first national park. It occupies nearly 3,500 square miles in the states of Wyoming, Idaho and Montana. Geothermal features are perhaps the most notable attribute of Yellowstone. Mammoth Hot Springs shows enormous geothermal mineral deposits only 5 miles south of the historic Roosevelt Arch at the north park entrance. The Minerva Terrace is easily accessible using the boardwalk through Mammoth Hot Springs. Huge deposits of minerals can be seen in this photograph.
