The 11,000 acre Z Bar Ranch became the Tallgrass Prairie National Preserve. Blocks were cut from native limestone to construct buildings on the ranch and ten buildings remain at the Preserve. The Lower Fox Creek School was constructed in 1882 and is shown in this photograph. The expression, "solid as a rock," came to mind when I saw this 131 year old building.
